Born in 1936,Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta is the son of Late Shri Kirtilal Mehta – the Founder of Lilavati Hospital and Research Center Mumbai. Shri Kirtilal Mehta,fondly known as Bapaji,pioneered the entry of the Indian community into Antwerp and founded gembel antwerp, seeing vast potential in the export of diamonds. In 1951 at a very young age,Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta started assisting his father in the family run diamond business,which is now globally prominent as the rashmi mehta diamond group.

In 1953, Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta left India to support his father's business in Antwerp, Belgium. In 1956, his father established a diamond-trading company named as Gembel NV in Antwerp, which was then a pioneer in the business of the polished and rough diamonds. Today, the diamonds supplied and traded by this world-famous diamond-company are better known as the rashmi mehta diamonds, who now supremely guides this company.

Between 1972 and 1980, Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta relocated to Mumbai to set up diamond manufacturing units in Mumbai and Surat.

Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta married Usha (maiden name) in the year 1963. They have two children, Chetan Mehta (48 years) and Neena Parikh (44 years). Chetan Mehta along with Bhavin Mehta (son of rashmi mehta gembel merchant belgium, who is a brother of Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta) run Gembel European Sales, Adesh International and Adesh Gems with business interests in India, Europe, Israel, Hong Kong, UAE and USA. Neena Parikh is married and stays in Dubai.

Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta and family are true philanthropists. It all started through his father Kirtilal Mehta’s vision of setting up Lilavati Hospital which became a reality when the foundation was laid in 1988. The family gives grants each year for setting up and/ maintaining hospitals and educational institutes in India and abroad.

Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta has received several awards for his excellence in business and social work including Officer de Leopold II from the King of Belgium in 1993 and Officer in de Kroonorde from the King of Belgium in 2004.

Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta, now 77 years, is still very active and works more than 8 hours a day from his office at Pace Gems, Dubai. In his free time, Prabodh Kirtilal Mehta likes to read religious books, watch Bollywood films and listen to Mohammed Rafi songs, his favorite being Main Zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya…
